Car2Go – Save Money & Time!

On the weekend I had the opportunity to try out the new Car2Go system that has been implemented in Calgary, and many other cities across the globe. I thought I’d give you a little insight into this system and why it’s extremely easy to use AND beneficial to the average individual!

Car2Go is an arrangement very similar to the bike sharing system used in Europe, but, with cars. By visiting the website www.car2go.com you can register to become a member.  This membership gives you access to any of the cars available within the city. A simple swipe of your card across the car reader on the windshield and it accesses your account and unlocks the doors of the car for you. After less than 60 seconds of following the onscreen in-car prompts and you’re ready to take off! For a meagre $0.35 cents/minute, $12.99/hour or $65.99/day you can have access to the same car while you run your errands, park for free downtown and save money using this simple service. The biggest question: What’s the catch?

As long as you return the car to the “home area” which spans inner city Calgary from 16th Ave North down to Glenmore Trail South, as far west as Sarcee Trail and east as Deerfoot Trail you are only charged your per minute (or hour) rate to your credit card or Car2Go account. It’s as simple as that and with the easy Car2Go finder located on the website finding the closest car to your current location has never been easier. What would normally have been an $18 cab ride for me this past weekend cost me a mere $4.55! So, forget the Calgary cab system. The next time you need a ride, locate your closest Car2Go, hop in and save money!

Great summary of the service Des. On your recommendation, I’ll likely register soon.

    Cheers!
