All I want to do is take a trip and leave the city, province or even the country. I had the chance to travel to Montana in May and am planning on traveling to Nevada in June, to B.C. in July and El Salvador/Honduras in September. Leaving the country isn’t such a big deal anymore with many people owning homes in the United States and Mexico and almost always a flight deal on to jet south of the border. One thing to be cautious of when traveling south or even outside the province of Alberta is what type of travel/health insurance you have.

Believe it or not a quick trip to the hospital in British Columbia can cost you hundreds of dollars without proper travel insurance. In the United States the same trip can cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. Luckily, if you have a personal health insurance plan you may already have travel insurance. Be sure to read the fine print carefully as some carriers only cover trips of certain lengths and most will not cover pre-existing conditions. For those without a group or personal health insurance plan it is always recommended to look at coverage options before you travel anywhere.

Travel insurance is easy to purchase over the phone and can save you money in the event of a medical emergency. Call me to get your personalized quote for travel insurance and be sure you are protected!

With over 50 people in attendance at our Fun Money Casino Night we managed to raise over $3100 towards our trip and help subsidize a portion of the cost. We have 7 individuals travelling to El Salvador to participate in a Habitat for Humanity project where we will build a home for a family living in poverty.

We are hosting one more fundraising event, the Fore El Salvador Golf Tournament, on August 23, 2013 at Highwood Golf Course in High River. This tournament raised a majority of the funding we required last year for our trip to Thailand and are looking to expand on that success. We have multiple sponsorship packages available and are also looking for silent auction items to be donated. If you are willing to help out in any way please contact me directly!

Click here for full Fore El Salvador details.

To make a cash donation to my trip you can visit my Habitat Giving Page.

Thank you!

It really isn’t a secret and is probably something you’ve heard before. It is talked about by financial writers all the time but very few listen to what is being said. So what is this well known secret to becoming rich?

The secret is to spend less than you earn.

And this is where everyone stops reading and says, “I’ve heard that before” but it’s not that simple. You’re right, it isn’t that simple. People have been spending more than they’ve been earning for many years now. Canada’s debt-to-income level as of March was at 165%! That means for every $1 you earn you are actually spending $1.65. Kind of hard to abide by the “spend less than you earn rule” if you fall into this category.

If this is you, I challenge you to change your spending habits. Try going one month spending less than you earn, then try two months, and then three. Spend less than you earn, save the difference and you will come out further ahead than the average Canadian!
